Global provider of business security solutions selects VMLogix for virtual labs and experiences significant cost savings
Santa Clara, Calif. – July 20, 2010 – VMLogix, Inc., a provider of virtual machine management solutions for software companies and IT organizations, today announced that WatchGuard® Technologies, a global leader of business security solutions, has deployed VMLogix LabManager in their pre-production labs. WatchGuard switched from VMware Lab Manager to VMLogix LabManager because of its comprehensive feature-set which better met their development and test needs. Additionally, WatchGuard selected LabManager because of the high availability of VMLogix support resources and the incredible efficiencies it brought to the organization as WatchGuard moved from a physical environment to a virtual environment.
“Our development and test environments were extremely hard to administer and keep current so we wanted to implement a virtual dev/test lab where data could be refreshed quickly and easily,” said Mark Olsen, IT manager at WatchGuard. “VMLogix LabManager has completely revolutionized our development and test process. It has saved large percentages of time and actual dollars spent, but also has dramatically increased overall productivity, product quality and time efficiencies.”
After initially implementing VMware Lab Manager, the WatchGuard team switched to VMLogix LabManager in late 2009. WatchGuard currently runs the solution on VMware ESX 4.0 from their data center in Seattle. Twenty-five people across the IT/web development team and the marketing web development team currently use LabManager for development, testing and other preproduction environments. Since deploying VMLogix LabManager, WatchGuard has experienced a 91 percent savings on platform, power, cooling and licensing costs; dramatic time savings on managing their dev/test environments; and a significant decrease in website glitches.
“The manual upkeep of labs for software development and test is time intensive and results in costly inefficiencies,” said Sameer Dholakia, CEO of VMLogix. “With VMLogix LabManager, organizations can leverage virtual infrastructure for the delivery of an easy-to-use, automated virtual lab management system which can meet the demands and specific needs of pre-production environments, including software development, testing, QA and more.”
